Bridge Meadows Tacoma

CLIENT:

Bridge Meadows

Currently awaiting funding, Bridge Meadows Tacoma will provide 39 affordable homes with potential future expansion to 70 units. Bridge Meadows uses the power of community to help children heal from the trauma of foster care. This model combines high-quality affordable housing, therapeutic programs, and intergenerational community support. Elders live in the community, serving as mentors, friends, and caregivers to the children and each other, forming a safety net of care and interdependence. All buildings are located around a central courtyard that is a focal point of community activity and creates a safe, nurturing environment for the community to thrive. Amenities include shared community rooms, outdoor plaza with picnic tables, garden beds, play area, lawn, and a circuit of walkways.

The first Bridge Meadows community opened in North Portland in 2011, and the most recent opened in Redmond, Oregon in 2021, all designed by CHA. Tacoma will be the fourth community for Bridge Meadows, and the design and decisions made at each community have been informed by experiences from the established communities before it.  The site is located within a larger area owned by Tacoma Housing Authority, notable for its adjacency to neighboring residential areas and proximity to Stewart Heights Park.
