Carleton Hart Architecture was commissioned to assist in the creation of a new model of foster care and community development that creates permanent homes for adoptive children. An organization known as “Generations of Hope” was established in Rantoul, Illinois, and after significant national acclaim is being brought to Portland. The Hope Meadows model is an intentional intergenerational community of adoptive families and seniors. The development brings together families that adopt children who would otherwise spend their childhood in foster care and seniors who act as surrogate grandparents helping younger generations.
Bridge Meadows includes eight 2,500 sf single-family, four-bedroom homes, thirty-two two-bedroom senior apartments and a 3,000 sq. ft. intergenerational community center for all of the residents.
