Children’s Receiving Center
The Children’s Receiving Center is a multi-building service campus including a new group home and renovation of two existing office buildings. Working with a consortium of social service providers, City of Portland, Multnomah County, State of Oregon child advocacy agencies, and the law enforcement community, the project serves the needs of abused and neglected children. The new home provides short-term living for sixteen children in a safe and monitored environment. It provides a 15,000 square feet building for service providers, a health clinic, and family visitation rooms, and a 25,000 square feet building for police, district attorneys and Oregon State personnel. The design team assisted with goal setting, project feasibility research, site selection, building assessment, master planning, and programming. With a focus on safety and protection, the team maintained current operations around abuse prosecution and protection, while creating a new home-like environment for the children.
