In response to the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the Port of Portland is engaging in several facility upgrades at their airports to comply with federal standards. CHA is proud to be working with the Port of Portland to respond to these increased safety needs.
Estimated to be complete in 2010, the project includes relocating the baggage screening operations from the ticket lobby to the airport’s back-of-house area in combination with a new in-line conveyor system. CHA is leading the project management and architectural design aspects of the project, which involves strong agency communication and coordination among the Port of Portland, TSA, the airlines, airport concession tenants, and the architectural and engineering team. Estimated cost for the project is $135 million.
Tenant improvements to the existing international arrivals area include a new secure area for customs and baggage processing, a control room for CBP agents, a holding room for more thorough passenger processing, full closed-circuit TV coverage of the facility, and extension of the arrival corridors out to two additional gates. The team facilitated the collaboration of several federal agencies and the Port of Portland to create a more efficient, effective and traveler-friendly process for inspection services for a cost of $4 million dollars.
