Colonia Libertad II

CLIENT

Farmworker Housing Development Corporation

Colonia Libertad || is a new farmworker housing community in Southeast Salem, located adjacent to the original Colonia Libertad development. The 44-unit project provides much-needed affordable housing for agricultural workers and their families, with a focus on creating a healthy, welcoming, and connected neighborhood.

Drawing inspiration from the site’s history as a fruit orchard, the design concept emphasizes growth, gathering, and community. Four new wood-framed, three-story residential buildings will provide a mix of two- and three-bedroom apartments. Buildings are organized around outdoor courtyards and breezeways to encourage interaction.

The development incorporates a rich set of site amenities designed to support family life and community engagement. Outdoor features include community garden beds, landscaped plazas, open seating areas, a picnic shelter, a children’s play structure, and a covered sport court.

Indoor amenities include a flexible community room with folding glass walls that open directly to the plaza, extending the space for gatherings, celebrations, and events.

Infrastructure improvements will support both residents and the surrounding neighborhood, including new utilities, irrigation, paved walkways, lockable bike racks, site lighting, and stormwater detention swales. Off-site improvements will add a new driveway cut, public sidewalk, street median, and right-of-way landscaping along Lancaster Drive SE.

By combining new housing with vibrant shared spaces and amenities, Colonia Libertad II builds on the success of the original community and creates a safe, family-friendly environment where residents can live, gather, and thrive.
