Multnomah County’s SE Health Center provides low-cost family health care to all County residents, including those who are low-income and uninsured. The clinic serves all ages and groups of people, providing women’s healthcare, pediatrics, adult heathcare, refugee screening, and mental health services. This project streamlines the check-in process with a one-stop front deck to help alleviate stress and confusion for patients. The design team considered the variety of backgrounds and needs when making recommendations to improve the patient experience.

Trauma-informed design considerations include a new color palette and healthier material selections throughout. With the intent of making the front desk more welcoming, the new desks are intentionally more open. Staff also have much better visibility of the entry, the waiting area and of each other, so they can better serve patients as they check in
